India and UK will collaborate to study the barriers that exist in transferring of climate friendly technologies from developed to developing countries, President Pratibha Patil has said.
"The UK Government and the Government of India have decided to collaborate on a study to assess the barriers to transfer of low carbon energy technologies between the developed and developing countries," Patil, who is on a four-day State Visit here said yesterday at a reception hosted for her at the majestic Guildhall here.
Transfer of costly and sophisticated technologies for reducing green house gas emissions to developing nations at affordable prices remains a issue between developing and developed nations at any climate change negotiation.
"The transfer of technology, especially at a time when all of us are concerned about the adverse effect of climate change, is a priority for us," the President said.
Patil said both countries realise the challenges and issues arising out of the need to tackle climate change.
She said India was looking forward to cooperation with the UK on development of clean technologies, sharing of technical know-how and constructive partnerships.
"Financing of such projects that support mitigation of Green House Gases would ultimately result in good returns on investments and strong economic and environmental benefits," she added.
