Gujarat government will soon request the Union Environment Ministry to lift the ban on the expansion, development and diversification of industries in Ankleshwar and surrounding areas, about 100 km from here, a senior state government official said.
Additional Chief Secretary, State Environment Ministry, Sudeep Kumar Nanda said, "We will make a representation to the union ministry and the Central Pollution Control Board in this regard.
The Union Ministry lifted the moratorium on expansion of industries in Bhavnagar, Junagadh and Vapi industrial areas a couple of months ago, but the ban in Ankleshwar area remained.
Moratorium came to be imposed last August due to pollution-related concerns. Nanda told PTI that an action plan had been now initiated to curb industrial pollution in the area, as per the suggestions of the central authorities.
