A week before the winter session of Parliament begins, Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee has called on a meeting of all party MPs tomorrow to discuss the plan to bring a no-confidence motion against the government.
Trinamool Congress(TMC), however, has already made its intention clear, that it would vote against government if there is an Opposition-sponsored resolution in Parliament against FDI in retail.
“We have been at the forefront of opposing FDI in multi-brand retail. We will definitely vote against the motion on FDI,” senior TMC MP Saugata Roy said. CPI(M) has decided to move motion under voting rules in both Houses of Parliament against government’s decision on the issue. Another left party CPI and key NDA ally JD(U), on the other hand, are in favour of giving two notices under rule 184, which entails voting after debate, and rule 193, in which there is no provision for voting. In its parliamentary committee meeting tomorrow, TMC may decide on giving similar notice for debate under voting provision.
Whether the party would go ahead to bring a no-confidence motion against the Centre, as Banerjee had earlier announced, is not clear. Sources in TMC said, lack of required support from “like-minded parties”, might stop it from bringing a no-trust motion. “We need support 50 MPs to introduce no-confidence motion. We have 19 members in Lok Sabha. If BJP support our no-trust motion it is fine. But we can not take help from BJP to introduce the motion,” a senior leader in TMC said. The winter session of Parliament scheduled to begin on November 22.
