The National Thermal Power Corporation (NTPC) will set up three power plants with a capacity of 660 mw each at a cost of Rs 8,000 crore in Seepad in Chattisgarh state within the next six years.

Revealing this NTPC executive director (western region) R D Gupta said: "For the first time we will be introducing the super critical technology boilers system in India. This system ensures an increase in efficiency through a reduction in coal consumption. It is also reduces environmental pollution."

Global tenders for the project were issued only last week he said and noted: "The project, which is estimated to cost Rs 8,000 crore, will have a 70:30 debt equity ratio."

Of the Rs 8,000 crore, Rs 2,400 crore would be the equity, while Rs 3200 crore would be raised through external commercial borrowings. The rest of the project cost would be raised through internal rupee loans, Gupta explained.

Gupta added that while the first unit would be completed in four years time, the next two consecutive years would witness the remaining two units being commissioned.
