Industry body PHDCCI and construction major L&T are in talks to provide vocational training to people, as the chamber aims at training 25,000 people in Rajasthan in the next five years.
"We are in discussions with L&T. They have shown interest to train people in handling small machines, electric fittings, carpentry and other similar field," PHDCCI Chamber President Ashok Kajaria said.
The skill training initiative was started in Haryana to train 5,000 to 10,000 people in the next two years.
"We have taken the initiative to provide the vocational training. Our focus would be on the 11 states of North," Kajaria added.
The chamber expects L&T will also involve itself with the initiatives in all the states.
With the country's emerging as an economic superpower, it would require additional 500 million skilled people in various sectors in the coming years.
He said the industry body in association with Delhi-based Grass Academy is already providing such training in areas like plumbing, carpentry, ginning and electricity wiring.
The member companies of the chamber will also absorb a large number of the trained people, he said.
Finance Minister Pranab Mukherjee recently called on India Inc to participate in the government's skill development initiatives and help create a pool of trained manpower.
National Skill Development Corporation (NSDC) is a joint venture between the government and industrial associations set up under the Eleventh Five Year plan to train 1.5 crore youth in technical skills by 2022.
