Power Grid Corporation of India Ltd has obtained a national long distance (NLD) licence from the department of telecommunications. | |
| An agreement for this was signed on July 5 between senior officials of PGCIL and DoT in New Delhi, a release said. |

| The licence will allow the company to explore more options and opportunities in customer segments, increase customer base and provide value added services to customers. |

| PGCIL plans to provide services to various corporate and government agencies immediately. |
| |
| The licence would also enable PGCIL to address the bandwidth requirement of corporate customers who could not be serviced under the present IP-II, IP-I and ISP Licenses. |

| It is thought that the new licence will result in increased utilisation of PGCIL's telecom network. |
| |
| The company is also considering allowing hospitals and the entertainment industry use its existing bandwidth for services. |
