Construction works on widening of the railway overbridge (RoB) in north Kochi would be completed by next month and will be opened to traffic by December-end, said Elias George, managing director of Kochi Metro Rail Limited (KMRL).

The traffic co-ordination committee meeting held today decided to deploy 160 traffic wardens in the entire stretch of the metro work-sites to smoothen and regulate the traffic during construction.

The metro works have been progressing well in north Kochi and at the busy Mahatma Gandhi road. George informed the barricades installed on the roads would be removed as soon as the works get finished in each segment.

The work has been creating hassles to the traffic and accidents have been frequent in parts like Edappilly and Aluva.

He also informed KMRL would write to the government to defer the toll fee at the Pulleppady over bridge till the civil work gets completed. The traffic towards Kaloor and Kadavnathra can be diverted through this route.

Traffic diversions have been avoided as far as possible to avoid inconvenience to public. He also requested public to maintain low speed and lane traffic at the work sites.

The land acquisition for Edappally flyover would be done in a fast track mode.

The preparatory work on the flyover started a week ago. KMRL reviewed the progress of land acquisition for the project  and decided to complete procedures to take over the land parcels under the Land Acquisition Act if the negotiations with the land owners fail to fix the value.
