The rupee depreciated by 10 paise to Rs 44.52 against the US dollar in early trade on the Interbank Foreign Exchange today, tracking dollar gains against the euro and other currencies overseas and a lower start in the equity market.

Dealers said dollar strength against the euro and other Asian currencies overseas and a lower opening in the stock market mainly put pressure on the rupee.

The rupee ended 15 paise higher at a fresh two-month high of Rs 44.42/43 against the US currency in yesterday's trade following heavy capital inflows amid sustained dollar-selling.

Meanwhile, the Bombay Stock Exchange benchmark Sensex fell by 53.93 points, or 0.28%, to 18,760.55 in opening trade today.
