State to strengthen police force

As part of filling up vacancies and augment the strength of its force, Karnataka government has decided to recruit 9,431 police personnel to various armed wings, including the State Reserve Police.

While 6,000 constables will be recruited into City Armed Reserve (CAR), District Armed Reserve (DAR), besides civil constables, 400 sub-inspectors of police and 2854 men for KSRP would be recruited, home minister Dr V S Acharya told reporters here. Of the four hundred sub-inspectors to be appointed, 25 would be picked up exclusively for intelligence wing of the newly set up internal security cell, he said. One hundred seventyseven sub-inspectors would also be appointed to KSRP, he said. The process of recruitment will commence in about a month’s time for constables and for other posts later.

The entire recruitment exercise was expected to be completed in about a year’s time, Acharya said. The eligible age limit for candidates has been enhanced by two years consequent to the government raising the retirement age from 58 to 60 years last year, he said.

The age limit for candidates applying for constable post in general merit category goes up to 25 years from 23 years, those in reserved posts from 25 years to 27 years. For police sub-inspector post, the eligible age in general merit section will be 26 from 24 and in reserved category 28 years from 26 years.
