The Tax Administration Reform Commission (TARC), announced in last year's budget, would submit its first report to the government by May-end, Chairman of the panel and Advisor to Union Finance Minister Parthasarathi Shome said today.

"The panel will submit its first report to the government by end of May. Then there will be four quarterly reports for another year", Shome told reporters during the meeting of TARC members with stakeholders in the city.

He said the panel had been formed to examine how the tax administration could be enhanced along with customer focus.

Shome said the commission would also look at a much improved tax administration system by bringing in more efficiency. It is aimed at bringing it at par with global standards.

The panel would also review the empowerment of officials with the 'right amount' of discretion, he said.

Handling of disputes between the taxpayer and the tax administration departments would also be reviewed, he said.

This was the fourth meeting of TARC after Mumbai, Bengaluru and Chennai.

Shome said that panel would also go to smaller cities to get inputs.

Members of the panel comprise retired senior government officials and private sector executives.
