Trinamool secures absolute majority in WB polls

The Trinamool Congress today secured absolute majority in the 294-member West Bengal Assembly winning 163 seats and leading in 23 others as results of 264 seats have been declared so far.

Its ally, the Congress, secured 40 seats and was leading in one seat.

The CPI(M) which was in power since 1977, tasted humiliating defeat and won only 35 seats, leading in four others.

Its front partner Forward Bloc could win in 10 seats, RSP in six (leading in one seat each) and CPI in two.

While two seats were won by Independents, others bagged six seats.
