The students pursuing PhD in Karnatak University have news to cheer. The varsity which has bagged the University of Potential Excellence (UPE) tag by the UGC will get Rs 5 crore for promoting the research work by Ph D students.

Karnatak University has sent proposal incurring an expenditure of Rs 36 crore.

Karnatak University will introduce the outreach programme in recognised educational institutions outside its purview. It has designed new courses which are not available in the varsity.

Educational institutions having suitable infrastructure would be allowed to run the courses as per the syllabus framed by the varsity in graduate, post-graduate degrees, diploma and certificate courses. The examination will be conducted by Karnatak University and the degree certificate would be issued by it. A notification inviting application for affiliation from interested institutions would be issued soon, said vice chancellor H B Walikar.

Replying to a question the V-C said he would be sending a list of 10 eligible professors to be appointed as the registrar of the University as sought by the higher education secretary and the government would appoint one among the ten as registrar. He denied reports that he was batting for a particular candidate for the post of registrar.
