The Wool and Woollens Export Promotion Council has set a target of achieving woolen exports of Rs 2,420 crore in 2009-10 financial year, about 10 per cent higher than the last fiscal.
"The export target of wool and woolen blended products like sweaters, shawls, blankets has been fixed at Rs 2,420 crore for 2009-10 against Rs 2,200 crore for 2008-09," WWEPC Chairman Ashok Jaidka said here today.
The council is also looking to tap export potential in countries including Russia, France, Italy, China and Hong Kong by holding export promotion activities in these countries.
Stating that the export of wool and woolen products largely remained untouched due to the slowdown, he said the total wool exports grew by 37 per cent to Rs 2,034.91 crore during April 2008 to February 2009 against Rs 1,481.29 crore in the corresponding period last year. Although the final figure of total export during 2008-09 is yet to come.
To expand footprint in the overseas markets, the Council would participate in several international fashion fairs, including Copenhagen Fashion Fair in Denmark in August, 2Fiera Del Levante, Italy, Pret A Porter in France in September, China Import And Export Fair in China in October and Geneva Fashion Fair in Switzerland in November this year.
The council would also send its delegation to look for new markets such as Moscow, Johannesburg, Cairo, Mexico, Panama and Australia in this fiscal.
