BJP’s Central Election Committee is learnt to have contemplating senior leader LK Advani’s name for Bhopal seat. Senior BJP leader, ex-chief minister and ex-MP from Bhopal Kailash Joshi who has opted not to contest Bhopal seat on grounds of his old-age, has Advani to contest from Bhopal. The Central Election Committee of the party is likely to finalise candidates this evening.

Sushma Swaraj, who is learnt to be re-nominated from Vidisha, is also a probable name but party sources have said, “It would send wrong message among voters if she switches over to Bhopal.” The other names district BJP president Alok Sharma, and Rajya Sabha member Anil Madhav Dave, who were hot-topic in the capital town, are likely to be dumped. The party sources also clued, “a remote possibility is that the party may ask its state unit head Narendra Tomar to contest the seat. But Advani’s entry will not only rejuvenate the party workers but the party will also cultivate advantage of his presence in the state.”

Party sources, however said, Uma Bharti was also wanted to contest the Tikamgarh or Bhopal seat but “political reasons” does not gel with her candidature from Bhopal. Sources also said she has been asked to consider Jhansi or Ayodhya seats in Uttar Pradesh.

Sushma, a popular leader in the party is also known as the close confidante of chief minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan.

Sushma entered state politics in 2006 as Rajya Sabha MP. Later she successfully contested 2009 Lok Sabha election from Vidisha by a big margin. Her next rival Rajkumar Patel faced expulsion following  allegations that he intentionally filed his paper after deadline of filing of nomination papers was over.
