Heavy polling in final phase of election in Chhattisgarh

The official hinted that the polling per centage could go upto 75% in the third and final phase of polling in Chhattisgarh

Heavy polling had been reported in the third and final phase of election in Chhattisgarh as more than 70 per cent voters had exercised their franchise in the seven Lok Sabha constituencies that went to the polls Thursday.

“According to the last report that came in detailing the polling per cent till 5 pm, 60.37 per cent electorate had cast their votes,” a state electoral office spokesperson said. The percentage was likely to cross 70 per cent when the final figure would be compiled, he said.The official hinted that the polling per centage could go upto 75 per cent in the third and final phase of polling in Chhattisgarh.

In the first phase, polling was held only in the Naxal-infested Bastar Lok Sabha constituency on April 10 while three other constituencies namely Rajnandgaon, Mahasamund and Kanker went to the polls on April 17.

In Sarguja Lok Sabha constituency that was otherwise identified as backward, heavy poling had been recorded with more than 70 per cent voters exercising their franchise till 5 pm.

In Korba where union minister Charan Das Mahant was seeking mandate for his re-election to Lok Sabha, registered a 63 per cent voters’ turnout till 5 pm.

On average, the seven Lok Sabha constituencies that went to the polls today had recorded polling per centage of 55 per cent in the 2009 general elections. The polling percentage had already increased in 2014 general elections though the election office could get figure till 5 pm.

In Raipur Lok Sabha constituency, 61 per cent polling had been recorded as against 47 per cent registered in 2009 Lok Sabha elections..
