Counting of votes will be conducted at the Golden Jubilee building of the Jayachamarajendra College of Engineering (JCE) located in the Manasagangotri campus area on May 16.
Counting of 11,568,799 votes has to be done of the eight Assembly segments, including three of Mysore city. The voting percentage had peaked to 67.21 per cent recording a good turnout, rural constituencies faring better than the urban segments in the April 17 polling.
All preparations have been made for the smooth conduct of counting, Deputy Commissioner C Shikha, who is also the District Electoral Officer, told reporters today. In all, 98 tables have been set up, 12 for each Assembly constituency in three rooms of the JCE, except for Chamundeswari which will have 14 tables.
Chamundeswari has the highest number of voters among the eight constituencies resulting in more people exercising their franchise.
Counting of votes will begin at 6.30 am and postal ballot will be taken up first. Subsequently, the electronic voting machines (EVM), which have kept the results hidden in their belly since about a month, will be opened. Round-wise results will be announced. Counting will go on till the process is completed.
Three persons will man counting at each table. In all, 391 official will conduct and supervise the counting of votes. They have been given training at a two-day programme yesterday and today. Entry is restricted to only identity card holders and the ID cards will be checked at three points, she said.
Elaborate and tight security measures have been taken up at the counting centre which includes installation of CCTV cameras, 20 video cameras to record counting, ban on agents going from one table to another, barricading, ban on entry of vehicles within a 100 metre radius, closure of all liquor shops and sale of liquor from May 15 midnight to May 16 midnight all over the district and ban on victory celebrations on May 16, the vote counting day.
