Ticket aspirants belonging to various political parties in the Telangana region have started their election campaign in the constituencies even before the finalisation of the potential pre-poll tie-ups in the ensuing Assembly and Lok Sabha elections.

Telangana is going to polls on April 30 for which the Election Commission issued the notification on Wednesday. The last for for filing the nominations is April 9.

“I am currently touring the villages in my constituency. I am not bothered about the alliances,” said Ponnam Prabhaker, a sitting Congress MP from Karimnagar over phone.

Though the Congress is understood to have promised  re-nomination for all the sitting MPs, those aspiring for the party ticket for the Assembly elections seem to be in no mood to waste their time. “I am in the field. I have no clue on the party’s possible tie-up with the Telangana Rashtra Samithi (TRS),” Sammi Reddy, a first time aspirant for the Huzurabad Assembly constituency from the Congress, said over phone.  Incidentally, TRS Assembly floor leader Etela Rajender is expected to contest from this constituency this time as well.

The situation on the ground strengthens the  feeling shared by leaders of both the Congress and the TRS that the pre-poll tie-up is now a remote possibility.

Many, who are seeking to contest in the Assembly elections, hope there would not be any  pre-poll alliance for fear of losing the chance to someone in the other party.

“How can we expect to get  the ticket if the party enters   seat adjustments with other party,” a first time ticket aspirant said.

For various reasons the two main camps, Congress and TRS on one side and Telugu Desam Party and Bharatiya Janata Party on the other side, are yet to disclose their plans on electoral tie-ups.

However, the TDP and the BJP are expected to announce the alliance both in Telangana and Seemandhra anytime soon.
