The number of offers made to students during slot-0, or the first two days, of placements at the Indian Institute of Management, Calcutta, (IIM-C), fell from more than 120 last year to about 107 this year.

More important, the current batch of 355 students went into the final placement process with 125 pre-placement offers (PPOs) in hand, compared with 235 PPOs that the last batch of 388 had in hand.

This decline could be attributed to the global economic scenario. Over the first two days, 110 offers were made. Of these, 26 were made in the consultancy space from companies like Mckinsey, Bain & Co, and AT Kearney. among others.
