The 'gur' (jaggery) traders from Uttar Pradesh, including those from the country's biggest mandi here, today began their one-day strike against the inclusion of their trade under value-added tax (VAT).
 
"Gur mandis in Muzaffarnagar, Shamli, Hapur, Khatoli, Pilibhit, Lakhimpur and Barriely would remain closed in response to the strike," Arun Khandelwal, President, Federation of Gur Traders said.
 
Traders are agitating against the inclusion of jaggery products under VAT which is excluded in other states.
