More than 50% of IPOs trading over 30% premium against issue price

Shree Pushkar Chem, Manpasand Beverages, PNC Infra, Navkar Corp and Prabhat Dairy that had listed at par or below their issue price are currently quoting at a huge premium.

Shares of two new companies - Dr. Lal PathLabs and Alkem Laboratories – have made their debut on the stock exchanges today at a huge premium of above 30% over their respective issue price.

At 12:35 a.m. Dr. Lal PathLabs was trading at Rs 796 on the National Stock Exchange (NSE), a premium of 45% compared to its issue price of Rs 550. Alkem Laboratories was quoting at Rs 1,382, a 31% premium against its issue price of Rs 1,050.

Meanwhile, more than 50% or 12 out of 20 companies that made their stock market debut in  calendar year 2015 have given solid returns and are trading well above their issue price.

The stock prices of 10 out of the 20 companies listed this year through initial public offer (IPO) route are quoting 30% above their issue price. Navkar Corporation and Inox Wind are trading at 29% and 12% premium respectively.

Interestingly, five companies - Shree Pushkar Chemicals & Fertilizers, Manpasand Beverages, PNC Infratech, Navkar Corporation and Prabhat Dairy - that had listed at par or below their issue price are currently quoting at a huge premium.

The remaining firms that are quoting above to their issue price include VRL Logistics, Syngene International, Interglobe Aviation and S H Kelkar and Company.

These 12 companies have collectively raised nearly Rs 9,500 crore via IPOs, currently valued at Rs 13,496 crore, a 43% above their issue size.

Shares of the remaining eight companies that slipped below their issue price are now valued at Rs 3,017 crore. These companies have collectively mobilized Rs 3,544 crore through IPOs, CapitalinePlus data shows.

Transport and logistics firm VRL Logistics' scrip has seen over a two-fold jump against the issue price of Rs 205. The stock was trading at Rs 410 on the NSE.

Similarly, shares of IndiGo's parent InterGlobe Aviation made a spectacular debut on bourses on November 10, with 12% gain, over the issue price of Rs 765 per share. It is now quoting at Rs 1,156, a steep rise of 51%.

Firms which are trading below their issue price are Coffee Day Enterprises, Sadbhav Infrastructure Project, Pennar Engineered Building Systems, Power Mech Projects, UFO Moviez, MEP Infrastructure, Ortel Communications and Adlabs Entertainment. The Nifty 50 index has lost 5% so far this year.
