The consumer courts are divided about the liability of airlines when baggage or cargo is lost

What happens when checked-in baggage or air cargo is lost on the way and does not reach its destination? According to Rule 22 of the First Schedule of the Carriage By Air Act, 1972, a claimant is entitled a compensation of only $20 per kg lost and is not dependent on the value of the items lost.
