Cardamom surges 3% on spot demand

Cardamom prices gained Rs 47.20 or 3.00 per cent to Rs 1,619.40 per kg in futures trading today on increased demand against restricted arrivals in spot markets.

At the Multi Commodity Exchange, cardamom for August contract surged by Rs 47.20, or 3.00 per cent to Rs 1,619.40 per kg, with an open interest of 900 lots.

Similarly, the spice for delivery in July-month contract climbed by Rs 32.50, or 1.93 per cent to Rs 1,717 per kg, with a business volume of 1,293 lots.

Traders said increased demand in the spot market, against restricted arrivals from the producing regions led to an upsurge in cardamom prices at futures market here.
