Black pepper and turmeric prices fell further by Rs 100 per quintal each in the national capital today owing to weak local and export demand at existing higher prices.

Adequate stocks following increased arrivals from the producing belts also weighed on the prices.

Black pepper fell by Rs 100 to settle at Rs 20,300-20,400 per quintal on poor export demand.

Turmeric prices also declined to Rs 15,600-18,400, against previous closing of Rs 15,700-18,500 per quintal.

Marketmen said sufficient stocks following increased arrivals from producing belts mainly pulled down pepper and turmeric prices on the wholesale kirana market here.

They said, reports of higher production and sluggish domestic and overseas enquiries also put pressure on the spices.

Following are today's quotations (per quintal):

Ajwain 13,500-19,000, black pepper common 20,300-20,400 betelnut (kg) 86-107, cardamom brown-Jhundiwali (kg) 730-750 and cardamom brown-Kanchicut (kg) 825-975

Cardamom small (kg): Chitridar 920-1,040, cardamom (colour robin) 1,000-1,010, cardamom bold 1,030-1,040, cardamom extra (bold) 1,220-1,240 and cloves (kg) 285-350
