Sensex nears 15K; Nifty crosses 4,500

The Sensex has rallied smartly to 14,957 - up 379 points.

The NSE Nifty is up 106 points at 4,501.

ICICI Bank has zoomed nearly 10% to Rs 703. DLF has soared 7% to Rs 550. HDFC Bank has surged 6.6% to Rs 1,182.

Maruti has rallied 6% to Rs 607, and Mahindra & Mahindra has gained 5.7% at Rs 549.

ACC and Grasim have surged 5% each to Rs 616 and Rs 1,989, respectively.

SBI and Jaiprakash Associates have rallied over 4.5% each to Rs 1,579 and Rs 182, respectively.

NTPC has moved up 4.3% to Rs 183, and Reliance Infrastructure has added 3.9% to Rs 1,041.

Sterlite has plunged 6.6% to Rs 583. Tata Power has shed 3.5% at Rs 1,080.

Tata Steel has dropped 2.7% to Rs 673. Ranbaxy is down over 1% at Rs 518.

Out of 2,718 stocks traded so far, 1,774 have moved up, 868 have slipped and 76 are unmoved.
