Silver futures rise on spot demand

Silver prices rose by Rs 148 to Rs 56,255 per kg in futures trade today as speculators created fresh positions, tracking a firm trend at the spot market on pick up in demand.

At the Multi Commodity Exchange, silver for delivery in December rose by Rs 148, or 0.26%, to Rs 56,255 per kg, with a business turnover of 902 lots.

The September contract traded higher by Rs 121, or 0.22%, to Rs 54,434 per kg in 7,619 lots.

Marketmen attributed the rise in silver futures to a firming trend at the the spot markets, supported by the pick up in demand.

Absence of cues from the global markets limited the gains.

Meanwhile, silver prices were almost the same at $28.75 an ounce in Singapore.
