Currently, the US market alone accounts for 50-60 per cent of the total black tiger shrimp exports from the state.

In June, exporters paid Rs 370 per kg for black tiger of the 20 count grade, Rs 320/kg for the 30 count, Rs 220/kg for the 40 count and Rs 160/kg for the 50 count grade of black tiger shrimp. Today, exporters were offering around Rs 20 less per kg for all the grades.

During the current season (June to August), exporters procured almost 35,000 tonnes of black tiger shrimp worth about Rs 800 crore from farmers.

Of this, about 25-30 per cent was still lying in processing plants and cold storages owing to the slowdown in shipments in the last one month, sources said.
