The second-generation of the Honda Brio is due to hit the Indian market around the festive season of 2016 or early 2017. Honda has been selling the first-generation of Honda Brio since 2011 and it will next year that it will complete its five-years lifespan. The currently sold Brio was designed and developed by Honda's Thailand team, however this new generation is being designed and developed with India as the key market for it. The Indian market has more volumes and considering this, Honda has been focusing to get a smaller car for our masses to increase its volume.

The third Honda plant might be utilized for the production of the new Brio. This is a new platform and the idea to make the hatchback more affordable and of course feature-loaded as well. Honda's current generation Brio is manufactured at their Greater Noida facility and is available only with a 1.2-litre petrol engine. The next-generation Brio will be designed as per the Indian consumer requirement and this will be highest localized product from Honda Cars India. Some of our sources claim that the localization might be even 100 percent, but we don't have any confirmed news on that.

Honda has already taken a leap forward with its new 1.5-litre diesel engine and since then it has been introducing several new products like the Amaze, new-generation City and recently it was the Mobilio. There are also rumours that Honda has been working on a smaller diesel engine (1.1-litre), which is the three-cylinder version of the 1.5-litre for the new Brio. This diesel engine is being refined to reduce the diesel clatter and bring down its NVH levels. This engine and the platform might even be used to design more products in the future. The new Gujarat facility will be looking at exporting Honda cars to other countries making India Honda's another export hub. We shall share more details as and when we get them.
