The Supreme Court on Monday will pronounce the verdict on the review petitions filed by the three convicts in the 2012 Delhi gang-rape case.
A three-judge bench of the Apex Court, headed by Chief Justice of India Dipak Misra and also comprising Justice Ashok Bhushan and R Bhanumathi will pronounce the verdict in the case.
The petitions were filed in the top court to set aside the death sentence awarded to the convicts.
On May 04, the Supreme Court had reserved its order on the review petition filed by the convicts, Pawan, Vinay and Mukesh, in the brutal December 16 gang rape and murder case.
AP Singh, lawyer of two convicts, Pawan and Vinay told ANI he is hopeful that his clients would get justice.
The apex court had earlier granted three weeks time to the fourth convict, Akshay, to file his review petition in the case. However, no petition has been filed so far.
Manohar Lal Sharma, the lawyer appearing for one of the convicts, Mukesh, said that his client is innocent in the case, and was falsely implicated.
The Supreme Court in May last year upheld the Delhi High court order of death penalty to four convicts Mukesh, Pawan, Vinay and Akshay.
It was challenged subsequently by the convicts in the Supreme Court
On December 16, 2012, six people gang-raped a 23-year-old physiotherapy intern in a moving bus in Delhi.
The woman succumbed to her injuries in a Singapore hospital on December 29 the same year.
One of the accused, Ram Singh, committed suicide by hanging himself in prison, while another accused is serving a three-year sentence in a juvenile home.
