7 crore LPG connections distributed under Ujjwala Yojana in 34 months

LPG connections distributed under the Pradhan Mantri Ujjwala Yojana touched the seven crore mark on Friday with Geeta Devi becoming the seventh crore beneficiary of the scheme.

Speaking at the event, Petroleum Minister Dharmendra Pradhan said, "On the Occasion of International women and Day, we have touched the seven crore mark of the scheme beneficiaries."

Launched in 2016, the flagship scheme has achieved this "milestone" in just 34 months.

The scheme was launched on May 1, 2016, by Prime Minister Narendra Modi with an initial target of five crores, which was later revised upward to eight crores connections.

Congratulating the women beneficiaries, Pradhan said they have been the main driving force behind this accomplishment. He said the government has not only provided connection to the poor but also distributed happiness to them.
