A runway turned into an enchanting forest, a rustle of silk, and an unsparing amount of fairy-dust; and born was Gaurav Gupta's mystical show titled "Silt & Cipher" at the Amazon India Couture Week 2015.

Designer Gaurav Gupta, who is known for his dazzling (literally) and sultry ensembles, says this line is an attempt to make couture more sophisticated, and is "more true to himself". With showstopper Kalki Koechlin as his "perfect muse", Gupta envisioned a line that draws from the elements and yet manages to look out worldly & fairy-tale like.

Juggling colors such as glare silver, withered peach, ivory, soft cream and gold, and juxtaposing tone on tone, the ramp saw a series of saree gowns, architectural skirts, many tiered skirts, lehenga gowns which are intricately draped, corseted and embellished. The synonymous to Gaurav Gupta mermaid/fishtail gown with a plunging neckline made a spectacular entry in soft champagne. One look which we believe is going to really take off is the play of zardozi embroidered peplum jacket lehengas teamed with flared skirts; a red carpet look for the bridal season if you will. Organza, dentelle lace, and a LOT of silk in various forms were used to create the couture collection.

The fact that Gupta makes no bones about his bountiful use of glamour and glitter which is now considered a trademark look, is something that can be seen through the entire line. This was exactly along the lines of the advice Koechlin gave to fashionistas, "Be yourself, personality makes fashion".

"I am going wilder and yet subtler. I wanted to add a fairytale feeling to the collection" says Gupta. The sculpted hair, heavy glazed metallic make up on the models paired with beautiful Grecian metallic earpieces sure was wild.

Even as the last model disappears with a swish of her gown, the silken dream embroidered with mystique doesn't leave your mind; just like the name of the line which suggests that the message on the sand stays with you even as the wave washes it away. (ANI)
