Former India cricketer and team director Ravi Shastri has stepped down from his position in the International Cricket Council's committee.
The development comes days after Shastri was pipped by Anil Kumble for the post of the head coach of the Indian cricket team.
The 54-year-old, who was the team India director until the end of the World Twenty20 campaign, was among the frontrunners for the role of the head coach before Kumble was appointed at the helm by the BCCI's cricket advisory committee comprising of Sachin Tendulkar, Sourav Ganguly and VVS Laxman.
Interestingly, Shastri was the media representative of the ICC's prestigious cricket panel, which is currently headed by former India leg spinner Kumble.
Shastri has been recently embroiled in an ugly spat with Ganguly, accusing the former skipper of disrespecting him by absenting himself during his interview.
Responding to Shastri's charges, Ganguly said he was saddened by the former's remarks and that the renowned commentator was 'living in a fool's world' if he thought he was responsible for him not becoming the head coach.
However, there is no indication that his resignation has anything to do with Kumble being made the Indian cricket head coach.
According to reports, Shastri is believed to have expressed his desire to ICC chairman Shashank Manohar to move out of the panel quite some time back.
