Afzal Amanullah takes charge as Secretary, Ministry of Parliamentary Affairs

Afzal Amanullah, a 1979 batch IAS officer of Bihar cadre, has assumed the charge of the Secretary, Ministry of Parliamentary Affairs.

He was earlier Special Secretary, Department of Consumer Affairs, Ministry of Consumer Affairs, Food and Public Distribution.

Amanullah succeeds Desh Deepak Verma IAS (UP: 78) on his retirement. He has also served as Additional Secretary, Department of Consumer Affairs, Ministry of Consumer Affairs, Food and Public Distribution.

Amanullah is an alumnus of St. Stephen's College Delhi graduating in Economics. He did his MA in Economics from Delhi School of Economics, University of Delhi. He also did Masters in Public Administration from Harvard University, USA and Bachelor of Laws degree from Patna University.

Amanullah has with him a vast and varied experience of over 33 years and has held several important assignments in his cadre state and at the centre.

In Bihar he has served as Home Secretary and Principal Secretary, Water Resources, Urban Development and Minority Welfare Departments, Government of Bihar, Patna etc.

Amanullah has also worked as the Director of Films Festivals and Joint Secretary in the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting during his earlier stint with the Centre.
