Congress leader, Rashid Alvi on Sunday termed Prime Minister Narendra Modi's visit to Bhutan as a good step, but advised that his foreign trips could have waited, and that he should have given precedence to sorting out issues like electricty and water with which the nation is grappling at the moment.

"It is a good step. We must have good relations with our neighbours. But, before embarking on a foreign trip (Bhutan), there are current issues like solving the demands of electricty and water in the country, which he must sort out first, and then, he should think of going on a trip outside India," Alvi said.

Alvi's comments came as Modi arrived on a two-day official to Bhutan on Sunday. He was received by Bhutan's Prime Minister Tshering Tobgay, members of his cabinet and senior Bhutanese and Indian Embassy officials.

Modi chose to visit Bhutan first, as both countries enjoy very friendly relations, and cooperate in a number of areas, including defence, infrastructure and economic.
