Ambedkar Varsity's first cut-offs touch 100% in four subjects

Ambedkar University Delhi's first cut-off list is out, and the percentage mark-up seems to be similar to what was announced by Delhi University on June 25.

AUD's first cut-off list for admission to four undergraduate honours courses was declared on Tuesday evening, and it touched 100 percent.

Students, who have studied Commerce in Class XII and are from outside Delhi, will require a 100 percent score to get admission in any of the four courses, that is, BA (Honours) with a major in English, BA (Honours) with a major in Psychology, BA (Honours) with a major in Sociology and BA (Honours) with a major in Social Sciences and Humanities.

For students residing outside the National Capital Territory (NCT), this year, the first cut-off list has jumped between two and four percentage points from last year's cut-off for these courses.

AUD reserves 85 percent of its seats for students from Delhi, and the balance 15 percent for students coming from outside Delhi.

The cut-off for students from Delhi for admission to BA (Honours) with a major in English for Commerce is 97 percent, while for Humanities students it is 92 percent. For Science students, it is 96 percent.

For students wanting to take up admission to BA (Honours) with a major in Psychology or Commerce, it is 98 percent, 93 percent for Humanities students and 97 percent for Science students.

The cut-offs for NCT students has also seen a jump of two to five percentage points from last year's cut-off across courses.

The highest jump is for the cut-off for BA (Honours) with a major in Social Sciences and Humanities which is 95 percent as against 90 percent last year.

University officials said the rise in cut-off is due to thew fact that there has been 65 percent jump in the in applications for undergraduate courses received this year.

"We have received over 9000 applications for the seven undergraduate courses on offer. We have 245 undergraduate seats, so, we have to be cautious with our cut-offs. The cut-offs have been decided based on the number of applications for the seats available," said Kuriakose Mamkoottam, Dean, Students' Service.

"There are many applications from outside NCT with very high scores. We have lesser number of seats for outside students, so, we have to be cautious with the cut-off. We don't know how many of these applicants have already taken admission in DU or elsewhere, so, we have played safe. A second cut-off list, if any, will give a clearer picture," Mamkoottam added.

Admissions under the first cut-off list will start from July 9 and continue till July 11.

The second cut-off list, if any, will be released on July 13, the AUD officials said.
