Anurag Thakur introduces Sports Ethics bill in LS

Among three private member bills introduced by Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) MP and BCCI secretary Anurag Thakur in the Lower House today is the 'National Sports Ethics Commission' bill, which is aimed at establishing a national sports ethics body to ensure ethical practices in sports.

The private member bill proposes severe punishment to those found indulging in match fixing.

In addition to life ban, the bill recommends "10 years of jail term" and a fine of five times the bribe amount for any sportsperson indulging in match-fixing.

The bill also proposes a jail time of six months as well as a fine of Rs 1 lakh for cases of fraud of age or gender. Besides, the bill recommends setting up of a 'National Sports Ethics Commission', consisting of judges and eminent sportspersons, which would frame guidelines and rules to help sports bodies to ensure ethical practices.
