Pakistan head coach Waqar Younis has apologised for the country's early exit from the ongoing World T20 in India and offered to resign from the post for the benefit of the team.

The Shahid Afridi-led side were heavily criticized by the fans after they failed to replicate their dominant win over Bangladesh in the opening match and went on to lose three consecutive matches against fierce rivals India, New Zealand and Australia to get themselves knocked out of the T20 format's pinnacle tournament

Admitting that Pakistan's disastrous performance in the World T20 had left him deeply hurt, the 44-year-old stressed that the team were facing numerous problems at the moment and that he was ready to step down from the post for the team's benefit.

The coach, however, said that Pakistan had to dig deep and find heroes who could turn the things around for the team and bring them back on track, the Dawn reported.

Waqar is serving his second spell as Pakistan coach. He first held the job between March 2010 and August 2011.
