A timely intervention by the army personnel averted a major fire in Chak Kigam village in Kupwara district, North Kashmir, on Tuesday

The army responded with alacrity and pressed into service its own water bowzers and fire tenders which supplemented by the civil fire tenders.

"The timely intervention through collective efforts of the army, civil administration and the locals prevented the fire from spreading to the adjoining houses and a masjid thus averting any major damage or loss," a statement from the army said.
