The Bangladesh Cabinet has approved the proposal to amend the extradition treaty signed between New Delhi and Dhaka dealing with deportation of people accused or convicted in a crime.

As per the amendment proposal, the two countries will be allowed to deport the accused if a trial court has issued an arrest warrant against him.

Earlier, the treaty only allowed the extradition of a person after verifying the evidence found against the accused.

The decision in this regard was taken in a regular Cabinet meeting presided over by Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina at the Secretariat on Monday, reports the Dhaka Tribune.

After the meeting, Cabinet Secretary Shafiul Alam told the media that the proposal seeks to amended Section 10 (3) of threat.

He said that both countries would after the amendment be allowed to extradite anyone against whom a trial court has issued an arrest warrant.

The treaty was signed on October 23, 2013.
