Prime Minister Narendra Modi met with Prime Minster Tshering Tobgay in Thimphu this evening after meeting with the King of Bhutan Jigme Khesar Namgyel Wangchuck. Official sources said that the primary focus in both the meetings was the extensive development and cooperation between India and Bhutan and measures to be taken to enhance economic ties.
Prime Minister Modi described the bilateral relations as B2B relations. Bharat to Bhutan. He expressed satisfaction at India being considered as a privileged partner of Bhutan and underlined that his government would not only nurture these strong bonds but would also strengthen them.
Mr. Modi emphasized on the possibilities of greater educational contacts and suggested doubling the scholarships being provided to Bhutanese students in India. He said that India would provide scholarship worth Rs 2 crores.
PM Modi also informed that India would assist Bhutan in setting up a digital library which would provide access to Bhutanese youth of 2 million books and periodicals.
The Bhutanese leadership which had laid out a red carpet welcome for the Indian Prime Minister was thanked by him for the warmth and hospitality. (ANI)
