Five civilians were killed and around 10 were injured after the Pakistani troops violated the ceasefire along the border in Jammu and Kashmir's Balakot region on Saturday.
Earlier in the afternoon, more than four civilians reported injured after the Pakistani troops violated the ceasefire.
"Fresh firing began around 3 pm and some civilians got injured, they were immediately saved by people around at the time. Then another shell fell in the village which brought on the casualties. Three people died on the spot and one died on the way to the hospital and three were critically injured," Pawan Kotwal, Divisional Commissioner of Jammu said to the media.
The condition of three civilians, who were critical after the shelling, was reported to be stable and they have been admitted to the government hospital in Jammu.
The firing was reported to have stopped after 7 pm.
