Amid the ongoing Bargari sacrilege case controversy, Akshay Kumar on Wednesday morning appeared before the Special Investigation Team (SIT).
Earlier this month, the Bollywood actor, along with former Punjab chief minister Parkash Singh Badal, and his son Sukhbir Singh Badal had been summoned by the SIT probing the police firing incidents in the wake of the Bargari sacrilege case.
The summon was issued under Section 160 of CrPC, requiring attendance at investigation, relating to the Bargari sacrilege case and Behbal Kalan and Kotkapura police firing incidents.
Shortly after he was summoned, Akshay posted a statement on his Twitter handle and stated, "I shall never do anything that would even remotely hurt the sentiments of my Punjabi brothers and sisters, for whom I have utmost respect and love."
The five-member SIT was set up by Punjab Chief Minister Captain Amarinder Singh government in September this year, soon after the issuance of the notification to withdraw investigation of sacrilege incidents of Sri Guru Granth Sahib from the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI).
