Korean boy band BTS broke the global event cinema record surpassing English boy band One Direction.
A global event cinema is broadcast live by satellite, which gives audiences around the world the much-needed thrill of a live event from local cinema halls.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, BTS's 'Burn the Stage: The Movie' with 1.4 million viewers around the world surpassed the previous record of 1.2 million viewers which was set by One Direction with their movie 'One Direction: Where We Are claimed' back in 2014.
The BTS movie was seen across 79 territories with a worldwide earning of USD 14 million (approx. Rs 100 crore).
The earnings from several countries are as follows: the USA- USD 3.6 million, UK- USD 830,000, USD 800,000 in German and Austrian box offices. In Philippines and Indonesia, the film had a viewership of 100,000.
With millions of ardent followers around the world, BTS is well known for songs like, 'Idol', 'DNA' and 'Not Today'. In September, the band got the rare honour of addressing at the United Nations as UNICEF ambassadors.
In October, BTS earned the title of 'Next Generation Leaders' after they featured on the cover of Time magazine.
