Beckham offered 'outpost' land to build stadium for Miami football team

Former English footballer David Beckham has reportedly been offered land to build a stadium for his Miami team in one of Florida's most remote outposts after being denied top spots in the city.

Beckham has been reportedly booted out of three prime city sites to build a stadium for his Miami team and now he has been offered land in the tiny city of Homestead to do so.

The land is closer to the holiday island of Key Largo than it is to the city of Miami. Homestead has a population of only 64,000, which is less than half that of Blackpool, in an area much the same size at 14 square miles, The Daily Star reported.

A source close to Beckham confirmed that the former England midfielder and his team are looking at the site.

But, the source added that Beckham feels humiliated that his first choices have been thrown out and what should have been an easy passage to establishing a new Major League Soccer team has become exasperating.

The source said that elaborate architectural plans were drawn up but they were thrown out when it was ruled the project would have led to huge traffic. The source also said that Beckham is a long way from throwing in the towel yet but, ultimately, if he can't find a home base in or very close to Miami itself, he could move the entire franchise elsewhere.
