BIMSTEC leaders join PM Modi in criticising terrorism

Joining Prime Minister Narendra Modi, BIMSTEC leaders unequivocally criticised the scourge of terrorism and emphasised on the need of enhanced cooperation among the BRICS and BIMSTEC nations and the world community at large to dismantle this menace.

Speaking on the BRICS-BIMSTEC outreach held in Goa, several members opined that both the member nations must join hands to fight against rising radicalization and extremism in the region.

Nepal's Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal said, "We must collectively condemn, fight against threat of terrorism in all forms and manifestations."

Bangladesh Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina said, "As a responsible community, Bangladesh maintain zero tolerance to any act of terrorism or violent extremism. We must join hands to deal with terrorism or violent extremism as well.

Bhutan Prime Minister Tshering Tobgay said, "We are here at a time when our host India has over the past several months suffered frequent terror attacks. Bhutan strongly condemns these terror attacks, & stand in solidarity with India and likeminded countries in fight against terror."

Sympathizing with India on the Uri terror attack, Myanmar Foreign Minister Aung San Suu Kyi said terrorism has become a source of common concern. We need to stand together against all forms of violent extremism.

"It is important that our country be at peace, & the whole region enjoys the benefits of stability," she said.

President of Sri Lanka, Maithripala Sirisena emphasised that Sri Lanka is firmly committed to join all efforts to combat the global menace of terrorism.

"Peace and stability in the region is an importnat element for economic prosperity. We strongly condemn terrorism in all forms," Sirisena said.
