A Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) delegation met Uttar Pradesh state governor Banwari Lal Joshi over the law and order situation in the state on Thursday.
"Today a BJP delegation met the UP state governor over the law and order situation in the state. After the Badaun incident, several crimes against women have been reported and Mulayam Singh Yadav and UP DGP's statements are very unfortunate," said Uttar Pradesh BJP unit president Laxmikant Bajpai.
"Saying that rape is a routine thing is condemnable. Such statements are causing such incidents to happen and UP's law and order is hung over a tree, as reported by media. People will not let the state suffer under the leadership of the Samajwadi Party," he said.
"We have said the state government has no right to continue being in power anymore," he added.
The Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister is being put under the scanner over the spate of rape cases in his state. The Badaun and Moradabad case of minor girls who were allegedly raped and then found hanging from trees have invited scorn from across the country.
The Chairperson of National Commission for Women, Mamta Sharma has also demanded Yadav's resignation.
