Gujarat Chief Minister Vijay Rupani on Monday gave the credit to public for the victory in the Assembly elections and assured the party will work for the people of the state in the coming five years.

Speaking at a press conference, Rupani said, "I would like to give credit for this victory to the people of Gujarat and I also give assurance that in the coming five years, BJP will work towards what the people of the state wants".

He added that to win an election for the sixth time straight is no small feat.

"The party's vote share has increased and despite the tally of seat share leaning in favour of the Congress, the BJP maintained a lead of over 8 percent. The Assembly elections showed people's unshakable faith in the agenda of development, caste-less and classless society," Rupani asserted.

He assured that the BJP will live up to the expectations more than ever before.

"The party's unwaivered strategy based on development, despite Congress taking the discourse so low, is commendable," Rupani stated.

As the BJP inched closer to victory both in Gujarat and Himachal Pradesh assembly elections, Prime Minister Narendra Modi assured that his party will work tirelessly for the development of the two states.

"Election results in Gujarat and Himachal Pradesh indicate a strong support for politics of good governance and development. I salute the hardworking BJP Karyakartas in these states for their hardwork which has led to these impressive victories," tweeted Prime Minister Modi.

Meanwhile, Congress president took to Twitter saying, "The Congress party accepts the verdict of the people and congratulates the new governments in both states. I thank the people of Gujarat and Himachal with all my heart for the love they showed me".

At the time of reporting, the BJP has won 99 seats, while the Congress has won 77 in Gujarat.

In Himachal Pradesh, the BJP has won 44 seats, while the Congress has won 19.

The BJP workers have started celebrating all over the nation as the trends indicate party's victory in both the states.

The counting of votes for 68 Assembly seats in Himachal Pradesh and 182 constituencies in Gujarat began at 8 am today.
