Former British Prime Minister Tony Blair has said he plans to become more involved in Brexit debate, believing that it will cause harm than benefit to the country.

Blair said he would be reconnecting with voters due to his worry over the economic damage likely to be incurred by leaving the single market.

He alleged that some Conservative politicians were in favour of Brexit at any cost.

Blair clarified that he would try to influence the policy debate shaping the government's Brexit negotiations, but would not be standing for a parliamentary seat or giving up work with his charitable foundation.

"I am going to be taking an active part in trying to shape the policy debate and that means getting out into the country and reconnecting .. This Brexit thing has given me a direct motivation to get more involved in politics. You need to get your hands dirty, and I will," The Guardian quoted Blair as saying to Daily Mirror on the 20th anniversary of his landslide wins over John Major in the 1997 general election.

Asserting that the final exit deal is yet to be agreed and the danger of Brexit was clear, Blair said the country is relegating itself.

Maintaining that he was not just motivated by Brexit, Blair said, "We live in a world defined by change. There are cultural stresses, people are worried about immigration, the way their communities have changed, economic stresses, and people are worried about the quality of their job . whether they will have a job."

Blair was the Prime Minister of the United Kingdom from 1997 to 2007 and the Leader of the Labour Party from 1994 to 2007.
