Congress leader P C Chacko on Tuesday expressed his disappointment over the progress made in the investigation of the desecration of an under construction church in Haryana's Hisar District, and blamed the 'sangh parivar' for creating an atmosphere of religious intolerance in the country.
"There is a BJP government in Haryana, what happened after 48 hours of the incident? What actions were taken? That shows that there is not adequate action from the government side. Prime Minister should be more firm and he should be able speak in the right language to the Sangh Parivar, till then, such statements cannot be taken on face value," Chacko told ANI.
"The atmosphere for communities to attack each other or religious intolerance happened when the Sangh Parivar outfits took out this ghar vapsi movement," he added.
Chacko also alleged that the Prime Minister is not willing to face Parliament and make an open statement against the tense situation in the country.
"I cannot fully appreciate this stand taken by the PMO, because the Prime Minister himself was not prepared to come before the house and make an open statement when there was a tense situation in the country," he said.
Earlier in the day, Prime Minister Narendra Modi expressed his concern over the incidents in Hisar, Haryana and Nadia, West Bengal.
The official twitter account of the Prime Minister's Office shared Prime Minister Modi's concern over the incidents.
"PM is deeply concerned about the incidents in Hisar, Haryana and Nadia, West Bengal," the office posted.
"PMO has asked for immediate report on facts and action taken regarding the incidents in Haryana and West Bengal," it added.
