Chavan hopeful of resolving seat-sharing tussle with NCP

Maharashtra Chief Minister Prithviraj Chavan on Wednesday said the seat-sharing agreement between the Congress Party and the Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) for the upcoming Maharashtra Assembly polls will be resolved in the next three days.

"We will take a decision within two to three days. My priority is that we must fight with all our might in all 288 seats whosoever is the aspirant. In the entire state of Maharashtra, we will fight with our strength and keep our secular ideals strongly before the people," Chavan told ANI here.

"We believe that our government will be re-elected for the fourth term and they will never side with the communal forces," he added.

Meanwhile, Chavan took a jibe at the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) over the verdict of the by-polls results.

"The by-polls results have shown that the people are not satisfied with 100 days of governance of the BJP-led NDA. People have realised their mistakes and these results are a reflection of it," he said.

According to reports, the stalemate between the Congress and NCP over seat sharing is brewing with the latter not willing to contest in less than 136 seats. The Congress has reportedly offered only 125 seats to its ally keeping the rest of the seats with itself to contest in the upcoming state assembly polls.

During the 2009 Maharashtra Assembly elections, the Congress had contested in 174 seats while the NCP had fought in 114 seats.

The polling for 288 assembly seats in Maharashtra is scheduled to be held on October 15. The counting of votes will take place on October 19.
