An expert on Middle East studies in China believes that any strike by the US against Syria, if implemented, would be the 'most directionless' and illogical by the country in its Middle East policies over the past six decades.

Ye Hailin from the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences said that such an attack would only lead the US into further confrontations with various sections of Islam and heighten tensions in the Middle East.

According to China Daily, Ye said that the Obama administration reached the conclusion that Syria used chemical weapons based on video footage and did not rely on uncontaminated physical evidence.

Ye further explained that US' limited strike would not stop the use of chemical weapons in Syria even if the allegation is true and it would be also meaningless if the intention is to end the rule of the Syrian government.

Commenting on the pressure which has been building up on President Barack Obama, Ye said that the president is unlikely to get UN authorization or support from most other countries adding that he doesn't want to launch the strike but the pressure from the interest groups in Washington is compelling him to take a stance.
